In search of a cleaner magnum powder
I'm a new DEP owner, and working on getting some good loads for this weapon (44 mag). Right now the most functional load I have is 24 grains of H110, CCI magnum primers, pushing either Nosler sporting...

real quick. those droplets are burning powder. try using less h110 and that should make for less waste and a cleaner gun. if you want to try another powder, lilgun is my personal favorite.

Some have recommended Unique also, I have used 2400 long time, and am changing. Most of the unburned is going out the barrel not hanging around. So if it is dirty by soot, it is burned. As far as not...

Here is a video of the DE being shot...They show the 50AE as the cartridge, but I have a hunch much of the time it is the 44 that is being shot also. Notice the number of times being hit by the spent...

I've heard that Viht N110 is a lot cleaner than H110-- but it's more than double the price. It's another option I was thinking of, but I think I'll try lil'gun first. It almost seems like the failure...

between using lil'gun and imr 4227, i have never had a filth issue. the 4227 is a bit dirtier, but nothing out of the ordinary. i forgot to ask earlier, would you consider your loads to be pretty hot...

I was getting unburned powder granules before when I was using WLP primers. When I finally scored some CCI 350's that all changed. I'm loading up 24 grains of H110, which I consider to be pretty hot....

+p+ raises another question-- are you guys referring to max loads (< or = to 36000 CUP) or loads above published max loads?
View ArticleRe: In search of a cleaner magnum powder
sometimes we like to experiment slightly above max published loads. but personally, i've never gained anything going over. it always seems to decrease the accuracy by quite a big margin. good to know...

Accuracy is sort of out the window right now-- with the combination of fighting with getting the gun to feed properly and to maintain the proper grip w/o flinching, I'm lucky to keep it on the paper...

This is a good read if you think you are warm with your load, you are not... http://www.realguns.com/loads/44mag.htm Some have said 24 grn is hot in 2400 this location shows, it is. Your load H110 is...

I just thought I'd update this. The ultimate solution was to send the pistol in to MR for polishing the bolt, polishing the channel in the frame that the springs ride in, and replace the springs. It...

nice. one thing about crimping... i've noticed that sometimes when i'd heavily crimp my bullets so they'd feed better, i would find copper flakes around the gas chamber and that means jacket...

I don't think with jacketed ammo, it would be a problem. With, Plated, might be! Crimp is important feature, especially with "buff" calibers... GAB

I used Hornady XTPs and don't have that problem. I did with Nosler JHP's, but the jacket is a lot shorter.

You might try Accurate Arms #9. Have had very good luck with it in 50AE. 300 grain Rainier plated bullets. 100% reliable; no malfuctions, FTF, etc. Also, good lubrication on the slide helps insure...

So far, my favorite powder (44mag) is unique. It burns real clean for me, and its faster burning, so it makes for a slightly less viloent recoil impulse due to the gas operation. Ever hear people talk...
